Adolescent Therapy

What We Will Achieve

individual counselling durham sedgefield

The teenage years are considered one of the most stressful and vulnerable times. To add to the challenges, it is difficult for most teens to feel that they can really open up to adults, even their parents. This makes it especially hard for parents to know when their teen is experiencing difficulties. Sadly, their parent can be the last person they want to turn to for help. My aim will be to work in partnership with your child to improve on his/her challenges, by developing a safe, reliable, and nonjudgmental environment. I will speak honestly with your child about their behaviours, thoughts, and feelings. Our goal will be to achieve new perspective taking skills, coping strategies, and to work through any problems that s/he may be facing.

As teens make progress in their therapy, all aspects of their lives tend to improve, including family and peer relationships, academic performance, and the development of a strong foundation of self-identity. Therapy can be an excellent resource for adolescents and parents, whether a teen is simply navigating the common stressors of this developmental stage, or if they are facing more problematic concerns.

  • Develop a trusting environment
  • Identify target problems and challenges
  • Learn new perspectives and coping skills

Getting from A to Z

We must remember how tough it can be as a teenager. Today adolescents are trying to juggle their schoolwork, develop friendships, navigate the rules of dating, contemplate the future, fathom the now, and manage all this with the increased social pressures of today. In a world of constant interconnectedness through social media, the personal battles for teens have become even more present in every moment of their life. And these challenges your teen is facing is equally difficult for you. It is important that parents know that these challenges are not unique, while your son or daughter is, their difficulties are not. Counselling is proven to help behavioural and mental health problems, from minor to severe.
